Story Starter #4

Veronicareading Greetings, Storytellers! I LOVE this contest; it's soooo much FUN reading ALL the entries.  This week, I've come up with a good one... and the WHOLE GANG is in it!  I hope you like it.  Here goes:

Black Tie Bummer

Archie, Jughead, Reggie, Betty and I went to a Black Tie Dinner at the Governor's Mansion to celebrate our contribution to the world of comics.  It was a FORMAL occasion, you know, black tie.  And WE were the guests of honor!  I was stunning, of course, and Bets looked fabulous.  Archie, Jughead and Reggie even looked good (but I couldn'€™t get Jughead to take off his beanie!)

Anyway, the evening was perfect...  UNTIL we sat down to eat.  I've never BEEN so embarrassed!  All I can say is... BOYS!  What happened?!

Can'€™t wait to read your stories...

Love,

Ronnie

Protect Your Hair!

Veronicafashionrules If you’re going to be spending a lot of time at the pool this summer, here’s a tip to keep your hair from drying out and getting that “green or orange glow.”

Wet your hair BEFORE you jump into the pool, and comb a good conditioner through it. Your hair can only absorb so much water, so if it soaks up good water and conditioner, those nasty pool chemicals have no place to go.

Have fun this summer!

Ronnie

Poor Patty!

I stopped for coffee on my way to school this morning, and I ran into our bloggy fairy-godmother, Patty. She looked – I don’t know – TIRED. And STRESSED! She ordered a DOUBLE espresso mocha, if that tells you anything – and Patty NEVER drinks coffee!

Seems that Archie and Jughead can’t decide on a name for their new blog.  Patty is about to scream!  They just sit in her office, stare at the wall and say, “Uhhh…” a lot.  Oh, and Jughead eats… Crunchy things… and he’s messy!

I feel so sorry for Patty!  I think I’ll send her a box of chocolates or something.

As soon as Arch and Jughead decide what to call their blog, I’ll let you know…

BOYS!!!

Hang in there, Patty!

P.S. They could probably use some suggestions. ;-)

Betty’s Right

Bets and I ran into Arch and Jughead in Pop’s this afternoon – we were at the mall shopping – and Bets is right.  Something is absolutely positively bothering those two.

Get this – Jughead just picked at his hamburger… AND he turned down a free piece of chocolate pie from Pop!!! We almost called 911!!!

Archie came over to our table just for a second. He wanted to know how we started our blogs.  We told him Patty helped us.  Then he went back and said something to Jughead and they left -  just like that!

Boys. Go figure.

Just Checkin’ In

How’re you doing on this week’s story, Summer Camp Nightmare?  Bets came up with a good one, huh?

Bets and I are talking about the contest again tomorrow while we’re floating on the lake. We’ll have news about it in a few days.

Until then, have a fun Memorial Day weekend and keep writing!

Comments Are Now Closed…

on last week’s Story, Face To Face. Your stories were TERRIFIC and now the judging begins.  Here are the judges we’ve chosen for the first two Weekly Stories.  (Actually, we all got together at Pop’s and drew straws.)

  • Week #1: My Day With Betty is being judged by Midge (‘cause she asked first.)

  • Week #2: Face to Face is being judged by non-other than Jughead!

Stay tuned for the Judges’ decisions.  Ooh, this is soooo exciting!

Remember Your Feet!

Veronicafashionrules Summer is the time to shed those socks and show off your FEET - so don’t neglect them.  I get a pedicure every 3 weeks like clockwork, but not everyone is like me.  Example: I have to practically DRAG Bets in to get a pedicure twice a year!

Remember to pay attention to your feet - just like you do your face – and they’ll look pretty for you all summer long.

Weekly Story Update

After school yesterday, Bets and I met with our bloggy fairy-godmother, Patty, about the Weekly Story posts.

We can’t believe how popular it is - you guys are writing great stories!

We LUVED your suggestions. I especially liked Emily’s idea of sending the winner on a cruise, but Patty won’t let us do that one! LOL We TOTALLY agree with ComicsFan that the judging should be fair. Everybody should have a chance to win.

We have a small problem on this end.  After Midge volunteered to be the judge, Nancy volunteered too, then I started getting phone calls from EVERYONE AT SCHOOL!  Archie, Miss Grundy, Moose, Ethel… they ALL want to be judges.  Bets got phone calls, too.

So, we’re trying to come up with a FAIR solution for this snafu, too.  We’re also still working on the prize. BUT…

Patty’s designing a page dedicated to our Weekly Winners! We should have the other details all sorted out by the weekend, so check back here for the latest news.

Don’t Want To Make A Big Deal About This But…

AC Management is posting comments from people who have read Double Digest #151 – you know, The Makeover Issue – on the Management Blog

Of course, they’re all favorable comments!  Anyway, I’m trying to ignore them, but it’s kinda hard.  I’m sure they’ll be posting LOTS of reader input in the coming days.  I’m gonna try not to read too many of them… but let me know if there’s something over there I ought to see!

Only 3 more weeks of school left - that’s what I’m gonna focus on this week.

Must buy summer clothes!

Love,

This Is Sooooo Much Fun!

Guys, your writing is GREAT! Bets and I are having THE best time reading your stories!  Last night, Midge and Nancy came over after the movie – Bets was spending the night anyway, so we had a sort of unplanned slumber party.  Anyway, we went online and spent TWO WHOLE HOURS reading your stories!

I’m glad you liked the story idea this week.  I thought it would be fun to see how YOU would have us handle an encounter with THEM. LOL

Anyway, we’re still looking for suggestions on how to pick a weekly winner for the Story Post,  - Midge wants to be the official judge, by the way.  AND we also need to come up with what sort of prize to give.  SO, if you have a suggestion, leave Bets or me a comment.

My Turn!

Veronicareading Last week, Betty hosted our first ever weekly story and, even though I was really upset about the Makeover Issue, I LOVED reading your stories! They were the high spot of my otherwise stinky week!

This week, it’s my turn – and do I have a TERRIFIC story idea. Here it is. I’m calling it:

Face To Face

After school one day, Bets and I stop into Pop’s for a shake. Pop looks nervous when we walk in and gives us “a look”. There are a few regulars there, mostly adults – and THEY look nervous too! So, Bets and I head to our regular booth BUT it’s already occupied… BY THEM!!! The FAUX DUO!!! It’s the first time we’ve actually met. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!

Can’t wait to read what you write for this one!!!

Time For a Change…

Veronicafashionrules IF you are a fashionista – like me – and you wear black more than 2 days in a row, people get bored. Don’t do it.

FYI:  I’m wearing something BRIGHT to school tomorrow. Bets is right – time to take my life back. This girl’s “BLACK DAYS” are OVER!!!

Dark Day In Riverdale

Well, it’s here.  I reaalllly thought this day would never come.  But here it is.  The Makeover Issue is on sale.  People everywhere will be buying it, and reading it, and deciding if they like “them” better than us – the REAL Bets and me.

I wore black to school today. I plan to wear black all week. It’s the only way I know how to show everyone how I feel.  Bets is not wearing black.  She said she’d going to act just like she always does and hope our fans will come through.

I am not that confident.

I asked Daddy to look into starting our own independent comic, should readers choose “the new” Betty and Veronica over us.  I was thinking we could hire out as fashion consultants.  That would make fun reading. Or, we could be private investigators – that sounds kinda fun, I guess.

I don’t know.  I guess I’ll just wait and see what happens this week.

ZERO

That’s exactly what I found out from two whole days of asking questions.  NOBODY seems to know WHO put that stupid comic book in MY locker.  I even asked the night janitor!

I can’t do anything else about it until Monday.  I have bigger things to worry about this weekend – like getting my Mom’s party  PERFECT!

Mom’s birthday was last Tuesday, but she’s been gone all week raising money for The Arts Guild. She does this every Spring – this year it just happened to be on her birthday. Soooooo, I planned something extra special to celebrate!

She gets home late tonight, so I invited all her friends here for a midnight surprise party!  The Coopers are coming. So are the Andrews and Reggie’s parents… and about 30 other people, all of whom are WAY older than me.  Gee, I hope mom isn’t too tired to enjoy her party!

I got her a pair of earrings AND a certificate for a Spa treatment. I thought she could use some pampering after traveling all week!

Tomorrow evening, I’m going over to Bet’s house so we can talk before school starts Monday morning.  THEIR comic goes on sale this week, you know.  UGH!!!  I wish they would GO AWAY!

I hope YOU have a good day tomorrow with YOUR mom!

Love,

Ronnie

INVASION!!

Riverdale High was invaded today by THEM.  No, not 8-legged, brain-sucking aliens – aliens would have been much LESS scary!

No, RHS was invaded by “The Faux Duo” – the fake “US”.  No, they didn’t actually show up – I don’t think they have the nerve to do that.  SOMEBODY put one of their new Makeover Comics – B&V Digest #151, INSIDE MY LOCKER!  I found it when I got to school this morning.

What did I do?  I screamed.  Then I went to the nurse’s office for an hour.  I don’t know where the awful thing went; Betty said it’s making the rounds through school.  She hasn’t seen it yet, either.

I am soooooo upset!  This thing isn’t even supposed to go on sale until May 15th, so SOMEBODY must have snuck one from AC Headquarters.  And how did they get it INSIDE my locker?

I don’t know who did this, but I’m going to find out!

Love,

Veronica

Your Best Friend This Summer

Veronicafashionrules You know what it is?  Sunscreen!  I know, we all want to have a gorgeous tan and getting SOME sun is healthy.  BUT you don’t want to fry your skin to the dry crispy brown of a roast turkey!

When I buy sunscreen, I look for one that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.  I also try to find one with Vitamin C and E, which helps boost sunscreen’s protection.  Take care of your skin this summer… so you will look good your WHOLE LIFE!

I’m On It

I am sooooo sorry that some of you couldn’t find a free comic book last Saturday. For everybody who did – Yippee!  Hope you are enjoying it.

You know, I live in Riverdale and comics is what I DO, so I guess I figured EVERYBODY had a comic book store in their town!  Boy, do I feel DUMB! (And I don’t feel dumb very often!)  I did some checking and this is what I found out:

Places like Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble and Borders don’t participate in Free Comic Book Day, BECAUSE they sell all sorts of books.

Only stores that just sell comic books participate, and then I heard that not all of them do - Bummer!

I’m going to see if I can’t get a list of participating comic book stores before NEXT May’s Free Comic Book Day!  I’m also going to see if stores in Canada participate.

I’ll keep you posted.

Just Curious…

Bets and I had a great time at the Riverdale Comic Shop yesterday!  The only bad thing – it rained, and my hair went frizzy!  Seriously.  Free Comic Book Day is NOT the day you want to have bad hair, but it happened. Oh well, there’s always next year…

Anyway, I want to know how many of you got a FREE comic in your town yesterday.  If you did, leave me a comment!

Love,

Veronica

Our Fans Are COOL!

I saw a story online this morning and just had to post about it!

Kudos to Nancy Grasmick, a school Superintendent in Maryland, for encouraging her middle and grade school teachers to use comic books in their classrooms!  Do you know why I mentioned this?  Because she grew up reading US – Archie Comics!  Said so right there in the article!

I don’t know how many schools use comics to teach, but if YOURS does, let me know!

Gotta run.  Bets and I are appearing for Free Comic Book Day tomorrow and I’m off to get a manicure!

Gag!

I got an unpleasant – make that COMPLETELY WRETCHED – surprise my inbox this morning, a press release from AC Headquarters. Here it is:

Betty & Veronica artist Steven Butler will be at 3 Alarm Comics for Free Comic Book Day. As a special treat, Scott Hoverman’s 3 Alarm Comics will have free early copies of Betty & Veronica Double Digest#151 to give to fans. Steven Butler will be signing them for free as well. This is the comic featuring the new look you have heard so much about. Don’t miss your opportunity to get a free signed copy.

Attached is a window painting done by Steven Butler himself for 3 Alarm Comics in Biloxi Mississippi.

Okay, I don’t know where to start – I will NOT put that picture of THEM on my blog. NO. WAY. If you MUST see it, you can go here.

Second – Steven Butler is NOT “OUR” artist; he works for “THEM” – The Faux Duo.

And, WE weren’t even invited to 3 Alarm Comics for Free Comic Book Day – at least I don’t think we were. Okay, I’ll have to check on that. Bets and I get sooooo many invitations from comic book stores to make guest appearances, but we can’t be in two places at once! I’ll bet Scott requested US but we were already booked. So, he settled for THEM - “The B Team”. Poor Scott.

Note to Scott Hoverman: Bets and I are already booking appearances into 2009, so if you want THE ORIGINAL US to appear at your store sometime in THIS DECADE, you’d better contact the AC PR Department SOON!

Gotta go – Must call Bets. I don’t know if she’s seen this yet; she’s at ball practice.

More later… Hang in there.

Love

Stress Busters!

Veronicafashionrules Thanks for all the comments last week! Boy, you guys really DO know TONS about stress! I LOVED Elenia’s suggestion. She thought I should stop focusing on the all the stuff that stresses me, and start focusing on things that are calming! Is she smart or what?!

So, this is my list of things that make me calm:

  • Shopping at the mall
  • Petting dogs. (That’s a new one I just discovered! Oh, the dogs should be clean, well-mannered and adorable.)
  • Shopping on-line
  • Running with Bets
  • Going horseback riding
  • Wearing new shoes
  • Looking at fashion magazines
  • Getting a pedicure
  • Going to the movies with my friends
  • Thinking about shopping

That’s my list. I’d love to hear what you put on YOUR list of “Things That Make Me Calm.” Time to share!

Do You Know What Saturday Is?

Yes, it’s Cinco de Mayo, but that’s not what I meant.

Yes, it’s also the day Archie and Jughead are having their big Support the Original Betty & Veronica Car Wash, but that’s not what I meant either. Saturday is:

Fcbd07_horiz_2

You might not have heard about this, but Free Comic Book Day is like one of THE most exciting days of the whole year in the COMIC BOOK UNIVERSE!

Bets and I will be making an appearance at the Comic Shop in Riverdale… and we hope we DON’T run into “The Faux Duo” – that would be HORRIBLE… and AWKWARD!!!

Anyway, Comic Book stores all across the country are giving away a FREE comic book to customers this SATURDAY only. So, remember to stop into your favorite local Comic Book store Saturday and pick up a free comic book!

Love,

Veronica

P.S. I hope you’ll choose ours!
