Okay, I don’t really
believe in leprechauns, but it IS a
great idea for a party… especially on St.
Patrick’s Day eve, don’t you think? It was actually Reggie’s idea; I just helped him with the details.
Tonight, the whole gang is
meeting at Pop’s around 7
o’clock. We’re splitting up into
4-person teams, and scouring Riverdale
for Leprechauns. Each team gets a canvas bag, a kazoo (Reggie says they like kazoo music) and a package of thin mint cookies to use for bait.
At 9 o’clock, we’ll all
meet at the Riverdale Cinema with any leprechauns we caught. (Of course, there
won’t be any leprechauns, but driving around town pretending to hunt them for 2
hours should be fun!) What we’re
actually gonna do is catch the 9:20 movie… a scary one, I think. I’m not sure.
What do leprechauns look like?
Well, according to legend,
Leprechauns are Irish fairies. When
fully grown they stand about 2 feet tall. They dress like shoemakers – don’t ask me; I have NO idea what shoemakers wear. They also wear a crooked hat and a leather apron. Okay, I think we all agree that leprechauns
are seriously fashion-challenged!
Leprechauns look like
grumpy old men. They are unfriendly,
live alone and can vanish into thin air. (So they need a COMPLETE
personality makeover, too!) One last detail – every leprechaun has a hidden treasure… a pot of gold, which is why we are hunting them!
Leprechaun hunters (that’s
us) are supposed to listen for the sound of a shoemaker’s hammer. If caught, the leprechaun must reveal the
location of his pot of gold.
I’ll let you know how the
hunt goes!
